Cast the five seats

Only the lead is required. A seat left empty reuses the lead's photo.

Quality

100 credits = one standard video = from $9.99. Credits for a failed video are returned.

How to make a Tiny Desk concert Outstanding AI video

The same three steps work for a solo joke or a full band. The only decision is who sits where.

  1. The lead singer seat in a Tiny Desk AI sample video: a smiling man with short dreadlocks in a grey graphic tee1

    Choose who sits where

Open the generator and drop a photo on each of the five seats: the lead singer, the front desk, the two back singers and the sax player. The lead is required; any empty seat reuses the lead's photo.

  2. The lead singer laughing in the long close-up of a Tiny Desk AI sample video2

Pick standard or HD and confirm

Standard is 480p and costs 100 credits, HD is 720p and costs 300. Tick the box to confirm you have the right to use every photo, then press Make my Tiny Desk video. Sign in when asked; your photos stay on the page.

  3. The band finale of a Tiny Desk AI sample video with all four singers and the sax player at the desk3

    Download and post

Both pieces render at once and are joined with the original song under them. When the player appears, download the 9:16 MP4 and post it with a note that it is AI-generated.

Why the Outstanding desk concert became a format

The Tiny Desk Concerts series is known for putting a band in a small office, behind a desk, with books, posters and gadgets on the shelves. One concert of “Outstanding” has everything a meme template needs: a lead who is clearly having the time of their life, a front seat that sings and claps toward the lens, singers at the back with their fists up, and a saxophone solo that gets its own shot. The structure is easy to see and easy to recast, which is why so many people made their own.

A good version is about the cast. Teams put their coaches in the band, friends cast themselves by personality, and families pick a lead who will laugh at being the lead. The lead gets the long laughing close-up in the middle of the video, so choose the person whose face you want to see for six seconds.

Every video here is generated, and none of it is an NPR video: the motion and timing follow a reference clip, and the faces, hair and clothes come from your photos. The clip is cut at its real shot change, the two pieces are rendered in parallel, joined and given the original song back. For the full list of seats, see who sits where, and for what it costs, see pricing.

Who sits where

The template has five seats. Each one is a different person in the original, and each gets its own photo. Seats 1 to 4 appear in both halves of the video; the sax player in seat 5 only joins in the second half. These faces are from a real Tiny Desk AI sample.

The five shots of the Outstanding desk concert

This is the sequence every Outstanding version follows. The times are the original clip's, and each shot tells you which seats are on screen so you know which photos matter most.

  1. Lead close-up: a frame from a Tiny Desk AI sample video
    0:00 – 0:01.4

    Lead close-up

    Lead singer

The lead singer looks off to the left with lips pressed together, then leans toward the camera and parts their lips. One seat, one face.

  2. The desk joins in: a frame from a Tiny Desk AI sample video
    0:01.4 – 0:06.7

    The desk joins in

Front desk, back left, back right

The camera pulls back to the desk. The front seat sings and claps close to the lens while the two back seats sing and pump their fists.

  3. The laugh: a frame from a Tiny Desk AI sample video
    0:06.7 – 0:13.0

    The laugh

    Lead singer

A long close-up of the lead as a grin turns into a hearty laugh, a raised hand and a loose fist. This shot decides how good your video looks, so pick the best photo for the lead.

  4. Sax solo: a frame from a Tiny Desk AI sample video
    0:13.0 – 0:16.4

    Sax solo

    Sax, front desk

The saxophone player blows into the horn at the back while the front seat nods along and opens their mouth.

  5. Band finale: a frame from a Tiny Desk AI sample video
    0:16.4 – 0:19.1

    Band finale

Lead, front desk, back left, back right

All four singers on screen. The lead points up between the back seats, the front seat sings into the keys, and the lead finishes with a fist in the air.
